Tarin chuckled warmly, his grin teasing and playful. "Well, whoever it is will be one very lucky fae." And I am one lucky brute... he thought in unison, as he glanced towards his mate once more and smiling lovingly. His hot breath tickled the hair lining her ears as he nuzzled her cheek, letting his gaze flicker back to the lake. It was a beautiful day, the sun sparkling off the cool water, the warm wind sending rippled across it's glassy surface. A lone petal drifted slowly down from the leafy canopy to land softly on his nose. Laughing good-naturedly, he shook it away, his eyes sparkling with a new twinkle. There was indeed no place like home. But how long could it last?

As am i

Belle responded in her mind, taking a glance up at Tarin and catching his gaze. With a grin, she turned away and watched as the wind caught another handful of cherry blosoms and blew them away.

Her mind began to wander once more, to when she had first arrived here. Cold and hungry, little Belle had been little more than a bag of bones. She had collapsed across the border, and Tarin found her... Little older than Belle herself. So she stayed with Conan's family, and thats when she began to feel at home. Playing with Tarin and Conan had been the best days of her life, and now she had them both with her... With pups on thier way!

She grinned and licked Tarin's chin reassuringly, before turning bakc to Conan. It was a small habit of her's, always checking that what she did was right and correct. Belle shivered for a moment, her damp fur making it easier for her to catch a cold or something... and that just would not do!

Conan laughed and nodded happily."Lets hope shes as perfect as your Belle,"he said smiling widely. He straightned up and smiled his widest smile at his friends. He knew they loved each other very much and he hoped this would be him and his mate one day. He sighed happily at the thought.

Then he saw Belle kind of shiver."Oh Belle are you cold?"he asked her in a concered way."We should be getting back to the den anyway."He got up and turned waiting for them to follow. He looked back at the two lovers.

Tarin laughed quietly at Conan's comment, his affectionate gaze meeting Belle's. Impossible, he thought silently, brushing her cheek with a quick lick. They were, indeed, a very happy couple. And soon to be a very happy family…
Feeling his mate shiver beside him, Tarin’s smile fell and his gaze turned from one of affection to concern. ”Belle? Are you alright?” Instinctively he found himself wrapping his frame tighter around hers, his warm, thick fur mingling with her own damp pelt. Glancing up at Conan’s suggestion, he nodded in agreement, rising to his feet though still keeping as close to his mate as he could. He certainly didn’t want her to get ill, not with the puppies on the way…

The questions were the same... they always were. She looked at Conan, then Tarin before sneezing. She hadnt meant to, but the buzz rumbled in her nose so violently, she had no choice but to sneeze. It shook her whole body, and as she glanced up and smiled. As Tarin wrapped himself round her, then stood up, Belle felt the small blast of wind against her back. Geez that was cold! Glancing up at the sky, she gave a small rumble at the tell-tale black clouds that had begun to roll over the skies.

"Im fine... Just a little cold.."

Belle answered with another slight shiver. It wasnt exactly cold yet, just slightly chilly. She stood up and shook her fur for a moment, before stretching and looking back up at Tarin. Just as she was about to talk, another sneeze tickled her nose. They were getting.... Rather annoying in fact. With a growl and another sneeze, Belle looked up as the first fat rain drop fell. Well this was just bloody great! Caught out in the god d**n rain!

Belle looked over at Conan and motioned with her head as the rain began to pelt down, so load that she knew she wouldnt be heard. With her head low and her tail tucked beneath her, Belle began to move forward, trotting at a brisk pace. She stopped and took one glance back at the now disturbed lake... So perfect...

Conan watched Bele sneeze."Come on," he said,"You've got to get back to the den." He said as he began to walk.He looked back waiting for Belle and Tarin to follow. When they did he brought up the back of them.

Suddenly he shivered a small shiver as the rain pelted down on his warm fur. He looked up at the dark sky as the rain wet his nose. He snorted the water away from his nose and kept walking. Why did this feel so cold when it was so warm just a short while ago? Its like the strom came out of no where...

Lines wound their way across his brow in an intricate frown, his usually smiling maw now distorted by concern. His pelt pressed hard against hers, so close he could even feel her heart beating against his own, grey hairs, white hairs, all one big mass of tenderness and compassion. Dark eyes ran over her frame, as they had done time and time before, and his scowl hardened. "Conan’s right," he added sternly, somewhat gruffly. It was times like this when his protective, masculine side came out, and his leadership qualities shone through. "You should be getting inside. You too, Conan."

A crack of thunder, and it all began at once. The raindrops came on in their thousands, like swarms of bees over a honey pot – angry and ruthless. It was surprising, to see rain in the midst of such hot weather, and on such a glorious day, too – but then, it seemed anything could happen in these days of turmoil. A huge raindrop right on his nose woke Tarin from his thoughts, and instantly he leapt up, needing no insistence from Belle; indeed, he was far ahead of her, as he urged her up onto her feet and towards the den. His frame lingered as close to hers as free movement would allow, his stride a little shortened to match hers; body heat radiating the few inches that separated them, fuelled by love and concern. He felt her hesitate beside him and slowed his pace, twisting round to see what stopped her. And it was then that he saw it; there, atop the slope, looking down across the crystalline lake and the rabbit-tail cherry trees. Faded petals lined the faded green hillsides, like hands, grasping for air as they drowned in the rain. The once flawless surface of the lake was now shattered by ripples, and the water seemed to hum with the pulse of the rain as it beat down on the siken surface, pitter-patter, pitter-patter, like little feet of all those souls that would be lost in the wars to come. Not an ounce of silver nor gold lined the dark thunderclouds; the sky was nothing but a mass of black mist and tumbling dewdrops. And it was then that Tarin knew. A shadow had come over the land of Ebonvale, a shadow darker than even the darkest of storms. Except there would be no rainbow after this one.

A sudden, violent shudder brought him back to reality, and his thoughts flickered back to Belle. Shaking the rain from his muzzle he pushed her on once more and continued on, only a few strides behind. Life would go on, no matter what storms may come their way. The only question was... for how long?

((There it is, my bout of literacy. Don't expect another one for a while now. Hehe.))

Noting the concern in their voices, Belle turned with a slight noise of urgency. She picked her feet up, over the puddles that had quickly formed. She took one more glance back, back to the lake and all it glorious-ness, before the sky opened. Her ears flattened, her tail began to droop and tuck under her stomach, making her spin in shok as the iceyness set in. Her whole body shook as coldness took over... What had caused this freak storm?!

"Im ok, but we have to get inside! Come on Conan, we're going!"

She announced authorativly, taking off at a brisk stride as the rain thundered down. Drops streamed down her muzzle and slid neatly into her mouth, running down her tongue like ice cubes. She sneezed again, almost making her fall. But soon enough, she picked up her feet and took off again. Belle looked back checking Conan and Tarin were following... They had better be! Nobody should be kept out in the cold like this... It was in-wolemane!

Conan nodded to Tarin. "I guess your right!" he shouted through the rain."We should all be in the den!" So he began to walk ahead of them leading the way back to the den. "We're almost there!" he shouted back to them as he kept walking.

The thunder rolled through the dark sky as the rain poured down on their fur. He sneezed the water away from his nose and kept walking. He got a little wobbly as he stepped in a large mud hole. "Uh yuck!" he said waving his paw around. "Watch out for the mud! You don't want to get your paw stuck in there!" He shouted this to them and continued on.

Tarin let slip a little chuckle at the sight of Conan wading around in the mud, though the sound was muffled by the thunder and the constant hum of the rain. His coat was soaked to the bone and he was shivering like a leaf, yet he couldn't care less, as long as Belle and Conan were safe inside. That was the thing about Tarin - he would always put his pack's needs before his own. Sometimes it's a weakness, as he knew all too well. Quickening his stride, he drew level to the other two. "Come on, now, just a little further!" he urged them both, his own stride strong and quick despite the boggy ground. Noting Belle slip, he quickly nudged her back up again and on her way, his muscular frame easily taking the weight of hers as she fell. Still he continued on, a little way behind her so as to catch her if she should fall again, while Conan led the way to the dens. Not much further now...

((Gah. My literacy's gone again. Sorry, m'dears.))

Conan whimpered as the rain poured down on his fur making him very cold. Almost there Conan! The voice in his head kept repeating. The mud splashed up on his nice fur and made him look very dirty. He was wolf! What other ways are wolves supposed to look?

Then he sighed a sigh of relief. The den was in sight. He ran up ahead shouted,"here it is!". He jumped in and sighed another happy sigh. Then he shook his body vigerously as the water and mud splattered against the walls. Then he itched one side of his neck before going to the entrance of the den and waiting for Belle and Tarin.

Belle could barely hear the words of encouragement as the boys pushed her one, through the forest where the howling wind subsided it attack for a moment, and the harsh rain stopped lashing against their hides. The defeaning noise worsened as yet another blast of wind seeped through the trees, hell bent on bringing the wolves down.

"Home...."

She croaked for a moment, looking up with slit eyes and spotting the den, a mound of earth just in front of the old oak tree. Her claws scraped once against the earth as she bounded in, straight into the path of Conan's water fest. She flinched and turned away, coat sagging with water. This just would not do!. Stretching forward, she shook also, sending the shower back at Conan with a cheeky flick of her tail.

"Tarin?"

She called, turning and gazing slightly up at the entrance. She shivered once again, feeling that now familiar squirming in her stomach. She passed it off again, sneezing and coughing for a slight second more. Then the cold took over and she collapsed, body crumpling against the dank, earthy floor. Belle held onto that last image of Tarin for a moment longer, before unconsiousness got ahold of her heart and gripped her until she couldnt breath...
